This dreamy dessert combines sweet gelatin with fluffy homemade whipped cream for a mousse-like texture that melts in your mouth. You can make it with any Jello flavor — strawberry, cherry, orange, lemon, raspberry, lime, or even mix two for a layered look.
It’s simple, refreshing, and always a crowd-pleaser.

INGREDIENTS

For the Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

For the Jello Layer

  • 1 box (6 oz) Jello gelatin (or 2 small 3 oz boxes) — any flavor
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup crushed pineapples (drained well)
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • Whipped topping for garnish
  • Fresh fruit for topping

INSTRUCTIONS — FULL, DETAILED, STEP-BY-STEP

1 Make the Jello Base

  1. In a large bowl, add the Jello powder.
  2. Pour in 2 cups boiling water and whisk until fully dissolved.
  3. Add 1 cup cold water and whisk again.
  4. Let the Jello mixture cool at room temperature for 10–15 minutes so it’s warm but not hot.
(Hot Jello will melt the whipped cream.)

2 Prepare the Whipped Cream

  1. In a chilled mixing bowl, add:
    • Heavy cream
    • Powdered sugar
    • Vanilla extract (optional)
  2. Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high until stiff peaks form.
The whipped cream should be thick, fluffy, and hold shape.

Combine Jello & Whipped Cream

There are 2 methods — choose your style:

METHOD A: Fluffy Jello Whip (evenly blended, mousse-like)

  1. Slowly pour the cooled Jello into the whipped cream while mixing on low.
  2. Mix until the color is even and texture is silky and fluffy.
  3. Fold in any add-ins (fruit or marshmallows) if desired.

METHOD B: Layered Dessert (double-layer magic)

  1. Pour HALF the liquid Jello into a dish → chill until slightly thick but not set (about 45 minutes).
  2. Mix the remaining half into the whipped cream to create a pale pastel fluff.
  3. Spread the whipped layer over the semi-set bottom layer.
  4. Chill fully.

This makes the classic two-tone Jello dessert.

4 Pour Into Dish

Use a:

  • 9×9 baking dish
  • 8×8 for thicker layers
  • Trifle dish for dramatic presentation
  • Individual cups for parties

Spread the mixture evenly.

5 Chill

Refrigerate for 4 hours, or until fully set.

The dessert should be light, creamy, sliceable, and fluffy.

6 Serve

Cut into squares or scoop into bowls.

Top with:

  • Fresh whipped cream
  • Berries
  • Extra fruit
  • Jello cubes
  • Mint leaves
